Monitoring African Agricultural Development Processes and Performance: A Comparative Analysis (2011; 2MB)
The report, an output of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system, is primarily for review of policy, investment and growth trends in African agriculture at the continental level. The review process culminates in the annual CAADP Partnership Platform meeting (CAADP PP) to review progress in the implementation of CAADP at the Africa-wide level.

African Agricultural R&D in the New Millennium: Progress for Some, Challenges for Many (2011; 1.1MB) The report analyzes information from comprehensive datasets derived from primary surveys conducted during 2009 and 2010 in 32 African countries by IFPRI’s Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators (ASTI) Initiative.

Guidelines for Non State Actor participation in CAADP processes (2011; 1.31MB) These guidelines are written for all stakeholders committed to building broad and effective coalitions to lead the transformation of African agriculture. This includes Non State Actors themselves, Government bodies, and Development Partners.

Integrated Pest Management and Crop Health (2010; 247KB) This White Paper was recently published by the CGIAR Systemwide Program on Integrated Pest Management. It gives guidance about how crop protection should be addressed in the near future for higher impact and food security and food safety. This document does not focus on Africa. It provides a global perspective and is based on the views of over 30 eminent experts from industry, academia, and civil society.

DFID's new white Paper on International Development entitled Eliminating World Poverty: Building our Common Future (2009; 1.51MB) This is the official UK government development policy document. It reflects the extent to which CAADP has become internalised into some of the development partner's (in this case the UK) own development assistance programmes. An interesting and timely document. 

FAO ISFP Mauritania Aide Memoire (2008; 431KB) This document, written in French, relates to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Initiative on Soaring Food Prices in Mauritania. It summarises development priorities as identified by project partners and sets out an action plan for helping farmers to increase agricultural production and improve food security.

FAO ISFP Burkina Faso Rapport Principal (2008; 662KB) This document, written in French, relates to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Initiative on Soaring Food Prices in Burkina Faso. It summarises development priorities as identified by project partners and sets out an action plan for helping farmers to increase agricultural production and improve food security.

FAO ISFP Burkino Faso End of Mission Brief (2008; 97KB) This brief describes lessons learnt during a FAO ISFP mission to Burkino Faso, and provides recommendations.  

AU 2003 Maputo Declaration on Agriculture and Food Security (2003; 79KB) The Maputo Declaration on Agriculture and Food Security and the 10 percent national budget allocation to agriculture development. At the Second Ordinary Assembly of the African Union in July 2003 in Maputo, African Heads of State and Government endorsed the “Maputo Declaration on Agriculture and Food Security in Africa” (Assembly/AU/Decl. 7(II)). The Declaration contained several important decisions regarding agriculture, but prominent among them was the “commitment to the allocation of at least 10 percent of national budgetary resources to agriculture and rural development policy implementation within five years”.
